In the western world this is New Year's Eve. Many folk around the globe celebrate the start of their new year this evening and thus there are many different New Year Traditions Around the World at Father Time's Net. that you might be interested in seeing. Hop over and have a look. You might find that others share even stranger new year's celebrations and traditions than you do.
Speaking of traditions there are many more associated with the 1st day in the New Year than there are associated with the celebration of New Years Eve. The New Year's Day -- History, Traditions, and Customs list will give you a nice insight into how others celebrate this momentous occasion.
Unfortunately New Years Eve has also been historically associated with the consumption of alcohol. However, for those of us who no longer consume the alcoholic variety drink in celebration, there are many alternatives to be had and many can be found at the Non-Alcoholic Recipes like Abstinence On The Beach, Apricot Velvet, Bahama Breeze, Bloody Mary Mocktail, Bloody Shame website, along with the recipes for them as well. Have a look. Some look pretty scrummy to me and a lot safer to drive with after consumption.
And speaking of recipes, of course there are some New Years Recipes for some tasty treats in the food line for the festive occasion. Have a look. You might find your own favourite here.
How many superstitions can you think of that are attached to New Year's celebrations? Believe it or not, there are quite a few and if you look up the Urban Legends Reference Pages New Year's Superstitions from the folk at snopes com I'm sure you'll find things that even you will shake your head in wonder at. Have a look.
Speaking of having a look, did you know you can do just that, have a look at every time zone on the planet online and how they are bringing in the New Year? You can, and thus participate in their New Year's celebrations as well from the comfort of your own home. Why not book a few of the New Year's Eve Webcams 2007-2008 to check back and view over the 24 hour period of New Year's eve around the globe? It could be fun.
One of the first places on the planet to celebrate the arrival of the New Year because of its position just west of the International Date Line, is of course, New Zealand where my family and I spent 30 years before moving to Australia. You can join in their celebrations on the New Zealand Webcam New Zealand Cam online as well. So tune in and get ready to party.
Then it's a short hop across the Tasman Sea to Sydney New Years Eve 2007 City of Sydney here in Australia to help them ring in the new year with their fantastic firework display over Sydney harbour. Of course, most other Australian cities also have web cams set up to help you celebrate with them as well, so do look around for them too.
One of the traditions I grew up with (back in the cave I grew up in... lol) is shown on the site named New Year's Traditions - Guy Lombardo and Auld Lang Syne which was a must see and must hear on New Year's Eve. The story of how that song became a tradition is also told on this site so you might find that information interesting as well. Enjoy.
One of the traditions I grew up with (besides killing and roasting a smallish dinosaur in celebration) was to make some sort of a New Year's Resolution and thus, in some way, change for the better in the new year. One way to make that happen is to indeed write it down, and thus the New Year's Resolutions Writing Form site might prove to be very useful to do just that. As the site itself says "print it off, hang it up, and do them" and yes, you are allowed to make more than one New Year's Resolution *(smile)*
Of course, making a resolution is one thing. Sticking with it and making it work is quite another. Thus the How to Achieve Your New Year's Resolutions - Fun Facts and Figures site caught my eye and I thought I would pass it on for your use as well. Have a look. It could help you actually keep this year's resolution.
And finally, if you're wondering what the British Royal family are doing over the holiday, or indeed are looking for some good history about them, you might want to have a look at The Royal Channel on YouTube. Yes, you have it on good authority that the Royal Family control what is put out on this medium to help you understand the Monarchy and how it works. I find it fascinating and hope you do too. And to end this week, the safest and best New Year to you and yours from me and my family.
