Hello and welcome to Mac's Picks of the Week. If you are interested in why this site exists, how it operates, and a little about Mac, then click on the Why and How Info link and see what is there. When you have finished please return to this Home page and see what sites I have chosen this week to receive a Mac's Picks of the Week award. Thank you for visiting and please share this site with friends, family, and colleagues who you feel will enjoy it.

This page is updated on a weekly basis, each Monday Australian (Queensland) time (GMT + 10 hours according to the world clock). Please come back and visit often.

Please Note: There will not be a page update next Monday as we will be away at the Toowoomba Flower Carnival. PLease enjoy the Long List of Previously Awarded Sites in the mean time. A new page will appear on Monday the 1st of October.

If you're looking for a blog that is written on a subject you're interested in you might want to have a look at the Bloglines site. This search engine is set up to do just that - finds you a blog that meets your personal requirements. Nice idea for a search engine and worth a bookmark I'd say.

Never really get the chance to listen to the news or current events? If you're an Australian and/or you own an mp3 player of some kind you can listen to the Radio National - Podcasts and MP3s podcast on your way to work. Of course you can also listen to it on your computer as well.

How much do you know about the food that the people of Belize normally eat? If it's anything like the lovely sounding meal called Cooks Recipes Belize Beef on Spiced Potatoes Recipe I think I'll give it a try. Why don't you as well?

There are blogs on all kinds of subjects but one I found recently is interesting to say the least. This one, done by the New Scientist organization, is called the New Scientist - International News, Ideas, Innovation and the article that really caught my eye, seeing as this is a technology blog, was an article dealing with "burning sea water". No that's not a joke. This story has been all over the net in recent times and apparently it may have some validity. It's worth your knowing about isn't it? I think so as well. Interesting stuff.

Did you know that it's only just over 100 years since successful flight by man was started? If you remember that on December 17, 1903, Wilbur and Orville Wright flew a powered aircraft for the first time, then the 100 Years of Flight Home site will make more sense. And now we're talking about finally colonising the moon as a launch platform to explore space from. In just over 100 years that's not a bad achievement. Have a look.

if you own an mp3 player of some description you no doubt have heard of the software called iTunes. Even if your player is not an iPod, you can still use the software to keep it up to date with the latest music or podcasts you've downloaded. Hop over to the Apple - iTunes - Download iTunes site and download and try out this software if you don't already have it. It's worth the download.

This past week my wife and I celebrated 42 years of being married. I wanted to find a good e-card to send her at work and went to the BlueMountain E-Greeting Cards site and found one that fit the bill nicely. Of course, I also could have just as easily gone to my own site, called Cyber Greeting Cards in the list of sites on the right side of this page and sent one from there, but this time I thought I'd try another site for a change. Why not send a card to those who mean something to you? It never hurts to remember friends.

Interested in trying out a new game? I'm a fan of the Harry Potter series of films for a number of reasons and the Find Your Hogwarts House - Harry Potter Sorting Hat Personality Test game is one that most Harry Potter fans will flock to during their morning coffee break. Have a look as it could be enjoyable for you as well.

Speaking of novels and writing, have you ever considered putting your writing skills to work and possibly writing a novel or two? Why not have a look at the Collaborative writing software online with Writeboard. Write, share, revise, compare site and get involved? You could have the next new blockbuster lurking in your brain waiting for an opportunity to release itself and enthral millions. Give it a try.

Most University students take notes of one form or another throughout their scholastic lifetime and many of us continue doing that as well, at business meetings and other courses we tend to go on throughout life. How many ways do you know of taking notes? Did you realise that there are at least Fifty Ways to Take Notes? I didn't, until I read this article. Now I do and I may well try out some of the other methods. Good stuff.

If you've ever tried giving up a bad habit you'll know how hard it can be. Enter a new piece of software that just might help, or at least make you more aware of your own frailties. Hop over to the site named Joe's Goals - Free Online Habit Tracker and see what this can do to help you. As the site itself says, it is "a simple yet powerful tool to make tracking your goals the easiest part of accomplishing them.". Now that has to be a good thing doesn't it? Happy changing.

Every once in a while I get well meaning friends still passing on hoaxes and scams that still unfortunately permeate the net. To that end, here is a list of some of the best Hoaxes Scams Cons emails calls fool tricks to come down the email pike to your email box. None of these are true by the way, not ONE of them. Remember the old adage - if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Couple that with the other old saying that if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and looks like a duck, it's probably a duck and you have a good way at looking at the next one you receive. Please, please, please, do not forward garbage like this on to a thousand or so of your closest friends. All that does is clog up the net and make it run even slower than it does now. Be warned.
