Updated 15 October 2007 Queensland, Australia Time
Hello and welcome to Mac's Picks of the Week. If you are interested in why this site exists, how it operates, and a little about Mac, then click on the Why and How Info link and see what is there. When you have finished please return to this Home page and see what sites I have chosen this week to receive a Mac's Picks of the Week award. Thank you for visiting and please share this site with friends, family, and colleagues who you feel will enjoy it.
This page is updated on a weekly basis, each Monday Australian (Queensland) time (GMT + 10 hours according to the world clock). Please come back and visit often.
If you visit my site often you will know that I enjoy finding good food and nutrition sites for you to see. One was sent to me this week from the webmaster at the MyFoodChart.com - Main Page site. HIs website is impressive because of his main page, his common sense approach on both his MyFoodChart.com - Diet For Diabetics site and his MyFoodChart.com - Diet Plan For Blood Pressure site, that I have added them to the appropriate pages listed on the right hand side of this page, my own Diabetic Recipe site and My Heart Links site. Have a look and you'll see that they are both full of common sense and worth your reading them.
However I also am always on the lookout for good recipe sites and what did I find? A site called Stuart's Chinese Recipes Page which is filled with recipes for all kind of Chinese food and Chinese cooking. One word of caution though - not everything needs to be cooked in oil.... watch your weight and browse sites like this. There are some good sounding tasty recipes here as well which aren't high in fat or salt, and which I might try. Will you?
Do you own an Apple iPod, or indeed, any mp3 player? Even if you simply listen to music on your computer and/or are lucky enough to have it then piped through your home or office, you know what a joy that can be for listening to what you wish to hear rather than what some station or site wishes you to listen to. Having said that, you no doubt are also aware that you can also listen to podcasts on your mp3 player of choice. What is a podcast? Simply put it's a radio show or television show that is sent out over the net in mp3 format or in streaming format, so named because it can then also be downloaded, like your favourite music, to your iPod or other mp3 device for later listening - when you have the time to listen. Neat idea huh? Then why not a directory of podcasts, simply called Podcast.net - The Podcast Directory which is only one of many sites where you can find some darn interesting shows to listen to in your own time. If you have a desire to keep in touch on almost any subject you can think of, someone, somewhere, has a podcast on that subject that they would love you to listen to. Some but certainly not all, charge for listening. My guess is that those who charge for it will be short lived as there are too many free to download ones that you can find. Tune in and listen on your own mp3 device of choice.
Just out of curiosity, what part of the body is being altered when one has a Blepharoplasty procedure done? If you're not sure, maybe you can tell me which geologic era means 'middle' or 'medieval'? Sound like trivia? Yup, and if you enjoy trying to beat trivia challenges you'll love the Fun Trivia Quizzes - World's Largest Trivia and Quiz Site! site. In fact, do a short quiz, then register with the site and they will keep your scores for you from then on, no matter which of their many many trivia games you wish to play. Enjoy. Oh, and the answers? The procedure is alteration of the lower eyelid, and the Geologic era is Mesozoic. Now you have something to bore others with at that dinner party *smile*
When I registered at the above site I first went to the mailinatorHome site, and though it is somewhat confusing, finally managed to take out a disposable email address to use in registration. Now, if I get spam, guess where it will come from? and.. most importantly, guess whose email box won't get cluttered with an increase of spam? Have a look and maybe bookmark this site for future use. Oh, by the way, your registered name is the email address, then you add something before the @ sign later. You'll catch on.
Hands up all those who drive a car ... hmm, a massive number of us do. If you would like to save a little cash, and also have your vehicle running just a touch sweeter, hop over to the *Car Maintenance How To Guides eHow.com site, have a read, then do as they say. It's really not that difficult to maintain your car in top running order. All you have to do is do it. I know I could use some of the cash saved by doing regular maintenance myself. Could you?
Have you ever had the occasion when you are running an application on your system, and a new version is released so you simply download the new version to make it all run better, only to find that it not only doesn't run better but now crashes? Wouldn't it be nice to return to your old version? The Old Version Downloads - OldApps.com site is a site that holds just that, older versions of software, for you to download and get back into business again. This is a great site to bookmark for future use. I know I could have used it a few times in the past. Well worth the bookmark.
One of the things we hear about on television, and in the rest of the media, is the necessity to conserve energy, and possibly to consider a solar energy system for our home. I recently did some investigation on solar energy for our home and first needed a good description of what they meant. I found a great description on the EnergyAustralia site which you might like to look at as well. I then did the math, and to be frank, I'd see a savings in about 7 years so I don't think I'll do that at the moment thanks. Still, energy conservation is one thing all of us should be aware of. A recent television campaign by the Australian government suggests that I could save a lot of power from the power grid if I switched my computer off at the wall each night. My comment? As soon as the government makes it illegal to sell 52 inch and larger television sets, I'd be happy to shut my computer off at the wall. You first Canberra..........
If you're relatively new to computing and the net, and need a good word processor to use to communicate ideas for that project you're working on, but just don't have the money to spend on MS Office (as good as it is), you might want to look at downloading the FREE copy of AbiWord from this site, which is similar to MS Word, but did I mention it was FREE?? Oh, ok. *smile*
A friend is writing courses to teach a specific group of people a particularly important section of knowledge and would like some help in writing those courses. Well, collaboration is the name of the game, but one needs some good, comprehensive, free Collaborative writing software online with Writeboard. Write, share, revise, compare. software built into it. Sound like a site that you might be able to use yourself with work colleagues? I know I would. Enjoy.
And, while working on that project, wouldn't it be nice to have a handy spell checker to ensure you don't embarrass yourself with your poor spelling? How about trying out the Free Online Spell Checker - check any text (English, French, Spanish, German, Italian) site and bookmarking it for future use as well? I think it's worth the bookmark for when you really do need a dictionary and spell checker, don't you?
In searching around the net I often find sites that look real at first, and only when you delve into the site do you come to realise that all is not necessarily what you originally thought it was. For instance, in searching out sites to show you I came across a very professional looking site called Welcome to Horoscope Online - Your doorway to the Future. Now that sounds good so as I'm about to make a bookmark for it to put here for you to have a look at I notice that it contains the following headings: "Astro Compatibility (coming soon), Pet Horoscope (coming soon), Decision Maker (coming soon)." At this point you start to wonder, so you read on to find that at the moment, they state, on their home page, that "Our team of mediums, spiritualists, mind readers and orthodontists are waiting online to create a personalised daily horoscope especially for you." Orthodontists?? Am I missing something or doesn't the definition "dentist who specializes in orthodontics, or the correction of misaligned teeth and jaws with braces, retainers, or other dental appliances." apply any more? Hmm... I then read a little further and find a line that asks "does the voice sometimes make you eat too much or kill your brother?" Hmm... Something isn't quite right with that statement either - lol. So, over to you. One piece of advice? Read the small print at the bottom of the page. Seriously, I love this site. Just don't take anything, and I do mean anything, seriously. Read it all. It's a really great chuckle and a good warning to us all. Enjoy.

Rebecca Game of "Digital Women - Women with their modems

Search my site to see if I have given a "Pick of the Week"' to any family friendly term you wish here. If I have you will be shown the page(s) it was listed on.
You can choose to search The Net or My Site via Google based on the "Family Friendly" content found on my site from here. The balloons show sites close to the content of my site.
