Warning: This past week a Melbourne teenage web guru has discovered something YOU may need to know. If you are a MySpace user or know of one, be warned that there is a very clever phishinhg scam that may well have stolen your login and password already. The scam happens when, having logged in to MySpace, and clicked on a link, you are asked to login again. The problem is that you will be logged into a site that then steals your login and password. How can you tell? Look at the address bar and it will say something like www.msplinks.com/ etc. That is a phishing site and minimally will have access to your account and any information you may have entered when you signed up (including your real world location). That is dangerous, so please, pass this info along to anyone you know who is a myspace user. And if you use any other social networking site or site that requires you to log in, the same could apply. Remember to Always look at your address bar if you are signing in to anywhere a second time, to ensure it really is the site you think it is. If you have any suspicion, back out of that site. And may I suggest you also read The Wood Verdict blog on a regular basis? This young man knows what he's talking about. Stay safe.
Generating interest in science in schools is a daunting task at times. Thus, any initiative that can come up with new and interesting ways of presenting science in general to the younger folk among us is looked on favourably by most science teachers. The AAAS - Kids & Parents site is well worth a look, not only by parents who have children in school, but by science teachers themselves. The term AAAS means "The American Association for the Advancement of Science" which at least gives the site some credibility. Have a look.
Speaking of education how often do you get asked to help with algebra homework? A little stumped at times? Have a look at the Practical Algebra Lessons site and you might find that it helps you brush up on your own knowledge as well. Good site to bookmark and use when appropriate.
As you are no doubt aware, social sites have proliferated in recent times. Sites like Myspace have people populating their servers at all times, and it amazes me how many people actually belong to sites like this. Well, now we have a relatively new player on the block you might want to have a look at called MyBlogLog. It's another site similar to Myspace, but it is now part of the Yahoo network, meaning you can simply log in if you already own a yahoo email account or yahoo messenger account. Imagine that. Half the work of registering may already be done for you *smile*.
Don't you hate getting one of those emails from well meaning friends with a hoax as old as time that they just felt they had to warn you and 5,000 of your closest friends about? If email like that bothers you as it does me, bookmark the Don't Spread that Hoax! site and whenever a well meaning but misguided friend sends you an email with a hundred >> marks in it, forward them the url to this site. This could be worth its weight in gold.
Fancy something a little different to tantalise your tastebuds this weekend? Then hop over to the Recipes From Ecuador site and try out some of these recipes. How often have you eaten Ecuadorian food? Thought so.
In some parts of the world the younger folk have recently started their school year. In our part of the world, they are getting ready for their summer break. Either way they would have use of the IPL Kidspace - Internet Public Library site. If you're in school it can prove a vital resource of information as any library can. If you're about ready to start vacation, maybe a good novel is what you need. Have a look and bookmark it. It's a great site.
We all hate spam, that junk mail that clogs up your inbox as well as slowing down the net. But how much do you know about it and how to handle it? The Dealing with spam - TheSite.org site will explain it all to you, as well as offering good solid hints to help you deal with it. Whatever you do, NEVER click on a link in it. Have a look and pass this useful info on to your friends for their use as well.
There are various women's halls of fame around the globe but I wonder if you're familiar with the National Pioneer Women's Hall of Fame - Alice Springs, Northern Territory site? Alice Springs is one of the Australian Icon towns, and you may know it for various historic reasons. Maybe it's time to find out what the Hall of Fame located there is all about. I suggest it is. Enjoy.
No doubt you know about YouTube, the site that shows you videos of things others have put online for you to enjoy? Well it's far from being the only site of its kind, and indeed, the Sifted Videos o VideoSift Online Video Quality Control site has some pretty great stuff as well. Some real old classics can be found here, even things from Monty Python. For instance, I didn't expect to find "The Spanish Inquisition" .....did you? *smile*.
If you own a car you will be well aware that you could save some of that folding green if you did a little maintenance on it yourself. Don't know how? All seem too complicated? If you hop over to the Auto Maintenance - auto care and maintenance, car maintenance, basic car maintenance, vehicle maintenance site you'll find instructions on how to do a lot that could save you money in the long run. Have a look.
So you think your musical knowledge is up to scratch? How about a challenge then? How about taking the online Music Trivia Quiz and testing out your musical knowledge? It's fun. Give it a try during that coffee break.
We all know that English is one of the most difficult languages on the planet to learn to speak correctly. Thus, a site like Welcome to Engrish.com! shouldn't really come as a surprise to anyone. Click on a category on the left then on various things it shows you. Whatever you click will appear larger so you can read it. Some of these are hilarious. Enjoy.
