Mac's Picks is a collection of family friendly interesting and useful sites, updated weekly. These sites are family friendly, and cover subjects dealing with search, internet, internet radio, news, health, medical resources, household hints, education, educational resources, recipes, food, strange, different, help pages, homework, kids, diy, sites I call "head scratchers", and/or new sites dealing with all kinds of things of use to the general internet community. To find the criteria I use, simply click on the "Why How Info" link on the right side of this page.

This page is updated on a weekly basis, each Monday evening Australian (Queensland) time (GMT + 9 hours according to the world clock). Please come back and visit often.

Important Note: If you are returning to my page, welcome back! Please click your "Refresh" or "Reload" button on the top of your Internet browser to ensure you are seeing the current week's page of my "Picks of the Week". Also, I would love for you to make my site your home page. Simply click on Tools - Options in Explorer, or Edit - Preferences in Netscape, and click Use Current and it's done.

I wish to apologise for not keeping track of a service I have on this site, which may have caused problems in various families. I speak of the Google Search Facility on the bottom of this page, I originally put it there so that visitors might also search for other sites containing content they wised to see and use, but was under the false impression that it also was, on this site, a "Family Friendly" facility, as my entire site is just that. As I state in the Why How Info link on the right side of this page, "A site must be able to be visited by all members of the family. Therefore you will not find sex or drug oriented sites on my weekly page. I do not, in any way, sit in judgment on those sites or on those who wish to visit them. I just don't include them on my page". Unfortunately apparently the code I had there did not comply with that request. You will see that it now does, and always will, ONLY bring back pages that comply with the Family Friendly category. I feel that enough search facilities cater to those subjects - mine doesn't have to. Again, my apologies to anyone who found that their search using that facility previously brought back inappropriate pages to view. It will do it no more.

Sport plays a major part in Australian life. Women also work diligently at their chosen sport here, and many gain international recognition because of it. The Australian Sports Commission - Policies & issues site contains not only policies and issues but also other women and sports links. Great site and well worth a bookmark.

The discussions about gene therapy continue and seem to go on and on, with both sides stating their cases well. This is possibly more important as a learning medium about us and how we operate than anything else. Have a look at the More Than Human by Ramez Naam site and make up your own mind. Interesting reading.

If you're into online auctions and the like, you'll love the Auction Mapper for eBay Fast Flash Search Results on a Map site. I find it unfortunate that only the US seems to work here. I think we all could use such help and hope that someone will do the same thing for all of us. Have a look and draw your own conclusions. It may be the only way you use eBay again.

If you have a family consisting of two adults and brothers and sisters the MyHomePoint site is one you should see. The site offers yet another free calendar for the family to use online. Great way for all the family to keep in contact with each other and keep appointments noted.

If you have ever done, or ever do research on Great Britain you will find that the British History Online site is a large site dedicated to helping you find lost information, including lost citizenship that you may not presently use or even know about. Have a look.

When you have your mid-morning or mid-afternoon coffee break, why not play an online game that will stretch your knowledge and keep that brain active? The Games for the Brain site has all of that going for it. Hop over and see what you think.

The first thing thought of when the name Albert Einstein is mentioned is usually his theory of relativity even if we normally haven't understood it and still don't. The Relativity Einstein's theory of relativity in animations and film clips. Einstein Light is one site that will try to explain this complicated theory and is also a good source of information from others on the same theory. Hosted by the University of New South Wales, this is a well done site that explains the theory in plain language.

Have you ever seen a supercomputer? The chances are minimal that you would. The TOP500 Supercomputer Sites page is a great way to know where they are, and a little about what they do. Supercomputers are massive and unbelievably fast. For example, one plots the mathematical calculations to put people and satellites into orbit. Now that's real math. Enjoy!!

Food safety is a subject we all should be concerned with. Too many instances of food poisoning exist and some with disastrous results. This concern is international in scope, which is why the WHO Food Safety site is in existence. The World Health Organization is concerned about this issue for all mankind, and to be frank, individually we should be as well. Have a look and let knowledge prevent it from ever happening to someone you know.

Need a good chuckle? I occasionally do, and when I do I look at such sites as the one called Y o u M u s t B e J o k i n g ! Thankfully it is a free jokes e-mailing list. They mail good, clean jokes two or three times a week to all of their subscribers. Go on, sign up. You could use the laugh.

Need a little inspiration in your diet? You really need a site that has a minimum of ads attached, such as the one called Just Great Recipes, which indeed has just that. Have a look. You may well find a taste tempting dish for tonight's meal here.

There are Star Wars fans, and there are Star Wars fans. One real fan has become somewhat of a celebrity on the net for posting a home made video of himself being the StarWarsKid and it's something you might get a chuckle from. Though this is funny we should be encouraging him to keep it up as he could use the exercise. I do hope he has, and also has gotten out more in the process, don't you? Enjoy.
