Mac's Picks is a collection of family friendly interesting and useful sites, updated weekly. These sites may be search engines, medical resources, household hints, educational resources, recipe sites, sites I call "head scratchers", and/or new sites dealing with all kinds of things of use to the general internet community. To find the criteria I use, simply click on the "Why and How Info" link on the right side of this page.
This page is updated on a weekly basis, each Tuesday evening Australian (Queensland) time (GMT + 9 hours according to the world clock). Please come back and visit us often.
Important Note: If you are returning to my page, welcome back! Please click your "Refresh" or "Reload" button on the top of your Internet browser to ensure you are seeing the current week's page of my "Picks of the Week". Also, I would love for you to make my site your home page. Simply click on Tools - Options in Explorer, or Edit - Preferences in Netscape, and click Use Current and it's done.
Each year I try to put up a number of sites dealing with the Christmas celebration. You will find a collection of things to look at on my Seasons Greetings site. Best wishes from our home to yours in this festive season.
Hands up if you grew up with cartoons at the movies. Hmm ... some hands are visible. Ok, cartoons on television? I don't mean the "shoot everything in sight" type, I was thinking more along the lines of the Looney Tunes genre. If you, or other members of your family, would like to keep up with what's happening in Toonville, then hop over to the Looney Tunes - All New Toons site and not only see what's on the horizon, but catch up with some old friends as well. I know you'll enjoy this trip.
Anyone brave enough to keep a blog about their holiday experiences? To some it's a traumatic event, while to others it is a heart-warming time of year. You might like to have a look at the Holiday Blog and thereby determine if yours would, or is, any better than this one. It's essentially a blog about news and events surrounding holidays throughout the year. Who knows, it might be.
You're not still using that white arrow for a pointer are you? What kind of cursor is that? Have you ever thought about making yours just a little more exciting? Why not hop over to the Anicursor - Animated Cursors sit where you'll find more free cursors than you can shake a stick at, and picking out a brand new one to use? It's fun, it's free, and you can individualize your own computer to reflect that individuality in you. Give it a try.
If you've wondered how to keep your computer secure from the growing list of nasties on the net, you could do worse than hopping over to the Bugs, Glitches & Stuffups site, written by someone who really knows his subject. While there, don't only read the article showing but also click on the links that read "CLICK ON THIS LINK TO CHECK YOUR BROWSER FOR PARASITES" and "The 10 immutable laws of security". You really do need to do the first one, and then read the second one. You won't be disappointed.
Speaking of keep up with the latest news, hop over to the GIANT Company Software site and read that Microsoft has just bought it. That means that Microsoft now owns some of the best anti-Spam, anti-spyware, and anti-popup software made, namely Spam Inspector, Popup Inspector, and Giant Anti-Spyware products. Could this be a portent of things to come in the next new browser to hit the market from Microsoft? One lives in hope.
Celebrating the holiday season in different parts of the world also includes recipes you may not be familiar with. For instance, those found at the Mediterranean Recipes site will fill your taste buds with festive cheer from that part of the world. Ah, the memories of Christmas Past.
Did you know that one of the more wreck filled pieces of ocean is near North America? It is known as the Graveyard of the Pacific - Le Cimetière du Pacifique and lies just off the coast of Vancouver, Canada. Many important ships sank here, and only now is real information about those wrecks finally coming to light, at least on the net. Have a look 'me hearties' and enjoy your peek at the past.
If, on occasion, you need an additional email account, or a webmail service or even a mail forwarding service, then you should have a look at the FreeMailWeb.com site. It indeed has links to free email addresses, free email accounts, mail forwarder, web email, and more. Not a bad way to have an address handy to protect you against spam email when registering that new software you got as a gift. ;-)
I love seeing innovation and the folk at Microsoft have done it again. If you use Microsoft Office, you may occasionally need some help using things like word, excel, or access. If so let the Microsoft Office Assistance The Crabby Office Lady video archive help you out. Yes. This brave woman does impart some interesting and useful info.
If you were a TechTV fan (before the G4 network of game players took it over and entirely ruined it for anyone older than 9) you'll remember that Leo Laporte was one of those who started and appeared on the old TechTV shows. To see what Leo is up to now, hop over to Leoville at the Leoville site and let Leo pass on his wisdom about your comuter and the net. Though he lists the various tv and radio shows he's now appearing on, here's hoping that he expands yet again and continues to help those of us who find it necessary to "Call For Help". Not only North America but the rest of us need you and your great presentations as well Leo. Enjoy.
Energy production is a project of almost every country on the planet. Australia is no different, and the Securing Australia's Energy Future site shows how this is handled in various parts of Australia by the government of this country. Interesting read.
Got a collection? how about one that's edible as well? Hop over to the index - Pez candy Containers museum and have a browse around. I didn't know they came in all of these types of packing. Guess that's a good enough excuse to make a collection as any. Enjoy.

Rebecca Game of "Digital Women - Women with their modems
running...", is a graphic designer who is superb to say the least. Rebecca designed this "new look" web site specifically for me, and I can't praise her work enough. Her site, dedicated to women on the net, is worth seeing and bookmarking for future reference. If you are looking for links of interest to women, please visit her site. And if you need the best graphic designer on the planet, I seriously can't recommend her more highly. Oh yes, and when you visit her site, tell her Mac sent you. Thank you Rebecca. I am eternally grateful for your assistance and expertise. ;-)
