Mac's Picks is a collection of family friendly interesting and useful sites, updated weekly. These sites may be search engines, medical resources, household hints, educational resources, recipe sites, sites I call "head scratchers", and/or new sites dealing with all kinds of things of use to the general internet community. To find the criteria I use, simply click on the "Why and How Info" link on the right side of this page.

This page is updated on a weekly basis, each Tuesday evening Australian (Queensland) time (GMT + 9 hours according to the world clock). Please come back and visit us often.

Important Note: If you are returning to my page, welcome back! Please click your "Refresh" or "Reload" button on the top of your Internet browser to ensure you are seeing the current week's page of my "Picks of the Week". Also, I would love for you to make my site your home page. Simply click on Tools - Options in Explorer, or Edit - Preferences in Netscape, and click Use Current and it's done.

This week saw yet another thing happen in a far part of the globe that you should know about. Why not simply put a link to it here? Because I want to enlist your help in stopping this Catch 22 In Iran from continuing any further. Yes, it's another of Mac's Musings, and this one is not only serious, but shows the perfidity of this particular world government and United Nations Member. Please, take the time to read this and give me a hand in stopping it? Thank you in advance for your time.

Most computer users like to be shown tips and tricks that can help to save time and make their computer experience more enjoyable. Sometimes it's not easy to find good advice like that though. However the folk at Microsoft have come up with a site called 50 tips and tricks which, if you take the time to download this brochure and follow their advice, will do just that. Have a look. Even I learned something here.

Food! I love good food. And though I may not personally find curry recipes to my personal like, many folk do, and thus the DolceVita Cuisine Curry Recipes site is going to go a long way toward making a lot of you happy. Give it a try. You could be making up some delicious things in your kitchen in no time. Enjoy.

If you visit my site frequently you'll know that I love pointing out the good things about blogs, and that there are a myriad of blogs out on the net to suit just about every taste. For instance, if you want to know what is happening with much of the stuff being worked on at Microsoft, then you could find the Scobleizer Microsoft Geek Blogger blog a good read. I try to keep up with this one myself. Have a look and see if it tickles your fancy.

We all know that there are museums of all kinds dotted around the globe, but the National Museum of Women in the Arts site is worth seeing. It shows you many of the women who we know in all forms of the arts, and some who appear not as well known as they maybe should be. Well, putting it on the net may well solve that problem. Have a look.

Weather here in my part of Australia is normally dull and boring - beautiful one day, fantastic the next *sighs and chuckles just a little*. Still if you do wonder what our weather is like, hop over to the OptusNet Weather site and have a look. Optus is one of our phone providers here and this site is reasonably good at providing you with the weather reports in most parts of the country.

When you were a child *I never grew up* did you have a favorite book? I did, and I think most of those in my age bracket did. Wouldn't it be nice to read that book again to your children or grandchildren? Well, if you hop over to the Table of Contents - library of ancient children's books online site you just might find it there. If you can't find it, but have it in your home, they do accept donations to help with putting all of those children's books online. Have a look. Great way to entertain the younger members of your family.

The opening of the Olympics this past weekend in one part, showed the galaxy reflected in the center pond of their display. If you wish a closer look, hop over to the Journey Through the Galaxy site and have a tour. It's a pretty fantastic place we all live in. Have a look and you'll see why.

Article 19 is an article of the Declaration of Human Rights that seeks to open information to the general public and to eliminate censorship of said information. The Article 19 Global Campaign for Free Expression site states "we work worldwide to combat censorship by promoting freedom of expression and access to official information". Sounds like a reasonable request to me, and hopefully it does to you as well. Have a look and enjoy.

Did you know that "the inhalation of helium cuts off a person's supply of oxygen and can cause dizziness, unconsciousness and ultimately death!"? Well, apparently it can, or at least that's what the folk at the Helium dangers site feel and want you to know about. Have a look. If it's true then all of us should know about it.

Oxymorons are those lovely pieces of speech that, because of contradictory words, seemingly make no sense at all, and yet are often used in every day speech. If you hop over to the Oxymorons.info - Oxymorons, Oxymoron site and have a browse around you'll see what I mean. And don't forget, especially when talking with the younger generation, yes means no, or is that no means yes? *chuckles*

How long has it been since you checked your computer for spyware? Not too sure what that is? If that's the case, hop over to the Spyware Removal. Free Spyware Scanner, Security Software site and browse around. It has the best description of spyware I've seen on the net, and their free download will tell you if you've been infected or not. Believe me, you need to know.

I know sometimes I find things that are a bit strange to put here, but this time, though it is strange, The Virtual Toilet Paper Museum is a serious site that looks at the types of toilet paper made and used down through the ages. No, it's not a porn site. In fact, it is rated family friendly and says that it is an "extensive collection of brands from the mundane to the exceeding rare, wondrous toilet-paper-related artworks of unusual beauty, and myriad informational exhibits". So, have a look and see what you think.

Digital
Women - Women with their modems running...

Rebecca Game of "Digital Women - Women with their modems running...", is a graphic designer who is superb to say the least. Rebecca designed this "new look" web site specifically for me, and I can't praise her work enough. Her site, dedicated to women on the net, is worth seeing and bookmarking for future reference. If you are looking for links of interest to women, please visit her site. And if you need the best graphic designer on the planet, I seriously can't recommend her more highly. Oh yes, and when you visit her site, tell her Mac sent you. Thank you Rebecca. I am eternally grateful for your assistance and expertise. ;-)
