Hello and welcome to Mac's Picks of the Week. If you are interested in why this site exists, how it operates, and a little about Mac, then click on the Why and How Info link and see what is there. When you have finished please return to this Home page and see what sites I have chosen this week to receive a Mac's Picks of the Week award. Thank you for visiting and please share this site with friends, family, and colleagues who you feel will enjoy it.

This page is updated on a weekly basis, each Monday Australian (Queensland) time (GMT + 10 hours according to the world clock). Please come back and visit often.

Finding blogs that can hold your interest longer than the first read is a challenge many face. You want to find things that interest you but separating the good from the chaff isn't easy. Thus, a blog like Blogthings - Welcome to Blogthings! is a refreshing change in that it is composed of quizzes about all manner of strange things. If you're looking for a bit of a challenge hop over and have a look. This one could become addictive.

Household hints come from all manner of sites. For instance, take a look at the Awesome Library - Teacher site where you will find loads of handy hints for those chores around the household. There are some good ideas here but because of the way the site is constructed you may have to work to dig them out. Have a look. It may contain some useful info for you and your household.

When was the last time you put together a jigsaw puzzle? How about one online or on your computer? The Jigsawland.com - Jigsaw Puzzles Online site has some that really can be challenging because it has 3 different levels to choose from. Have a look. It's certainly more fun than playing solitaire online over that coffee break.

You may, like my wife and I, enjoy car racing. We also particularly like drag racing and the ANDRA Australian National Drag Racing Association site is certainly one site that gives you the lowdown on who is doing what where. This is an exciting sport and one that anyone can go to and watch. If you have never been why not try it out soon with your family? It can be a really exciting day out.

For a long time I've been a fan of MADD, meaning the organization called Mothers Against Drunk Drivers. Thus, seeing the MADD Orange County -- Non-Alcoholic Drink Recipes site really meant I had to show it to you as well. Here is a site made up mostly of mothers who are sick and tired of the drunks on the road killing their spouses and their children and are prepared to do something about it, including publishing lists of non-alcoholic drinks you can serve your guests to ensure they do not drive home drunk. How long do we have to go on to determine that driving while under the influence is neither clever nor safe? Have a look and start stocking up on drinks like these for your own family and friends to enjoy. If alcohol is the only way someone can enjoy your company, then either they, or you, have a more serious problem to address. Have a look.

One of the Television shows we enjoy watching is the Dog Whisperer. Mr Milan is certainly good at what he does in training the pet owners how to care for their pets properly and lead the pack as it were. There are, however, other solutions to some of the animal behaviour problems one sees as well, and the Pet Care and Behaviour Solutions site introduces you to a veterinary behaviourist located in Brisbane (approximately one hour's car ride north of me). If you want some good advice on handling your own pet, have a look here. It may help solve your problems.

Also, if you simply want some good advice on how to care for your pet, you might want to have a look at the Advanced Pet Care site. It has some good sound advice for all pet owners so do have a look.

As one gets older the desire to exercise lessens, often due to disease or just discomfort. Every once in a while we need to be encouraged to do something positive that can enhance the life we have, and the Why exercise - Health & Wellbeing site certainly puts that into perspective. Have a look, especially if, like me, you're advancing in years.

When I was in school (yes, they even had schools back in those days... lol) homework was a chore that every student dreaded. In many respects that thought and feeling hasn't changed with today's young folk. So, it is possible that sites like the Jiskha Homework Help - school experts, education, reference and more site could be a real boon to those you know still face that task in their studies. It's a fact of life so try to give them as much encouragement as you can.

Sometimes, when doing an assignment (or a report for work, or even writing a story) you may need a thesaurus. Why? If you find that you're using the same word over and over again, type it into the Thesaurus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopaedia and see what alternative words you can find to use. A thesaurus is a very handy tool. Why not use it yourself?

With summer approaching in the northern hemisphere, it may be timely to have a look at the Summer Safety Quiz and see how well you and your family know the answers. It isn't long, but it is quite comprehensive and if you do well then you should have no problem over the summer months dealing with all of the things summer can throw at you. Have a look, and encourage your family to as well.

I may well be in the minority but I cringe every time I see someone dress up their pet in clothing of one manner or another. Nowhere in nature do you see an animal put on a coat or hat. Thus, the Kitty Wigs! The Wigs site caught my eye. Is this just what your cat needs? Somehow I feel I may be the odd one out but my verdict? NO!!!! Have a look and make up your own mind.
