Hello and welcome to Mac's Picks of the Week. If you are interested in why this site exists, how it operates, and a little about Mac, then click on the Why and How Info link and see what is there. When you have finished please return to this Home page and see what sites I have chosen this week to receive a Mac's Picks of the Week award. Thank you for visiting and please share this site with friends, family, and colleagues who you feel will enjoy it.

This page is updated on a weekly basis, each Monday Australian (Queensland) time (GMT + 10 hours according to the world clock). Please come back and visit often.

If you're returning to my site, I just want to remind you that I've opened a new recipe page on the site that lists recopies from around the world for you to try. It's located at the Recipes From Around The World site which will, from now on, be listed on the right side of this page. If you know of a site you think I should add to the list, let me know so that we can all share in those wonderful tastes. Enjoy.

This coming weekend marks a number of celebrations around the world. On Friday, the 21st, the celebration of Naw Ruz for those members of the Baha'i Faith as well as those of Persian decent, takes place. Naw-Ruz (`New Day') is the Bahá'í and Iranian new year, which occurs on the date of the vernal equinox, about 21 March. It is one of the nine Bahá'í holy days on which work is suspended. You can find out more about this celebration by Googling the term Naw Ruz. Also, those of the Christian faith celebrate Easter and thus it may be appropriate for your young folk to visit the Easter 2008 Bunny and Easter Basket Crafts, Coloring Pages, Spring Recipes and Easter Egg Hunt Ideas - Kaboose.com site to see what games and activities they can play with to broaden their understanding of the Easter Bunny concept. Of course, those of a more adult age may enjoy seeing some of the photos taken from the Easter Parade in New York in 2006, seen at the EASTER PARADE IN NEW YORK CITY - 04-06-2006 Photo Gallery by Alain-Philippe BAUDRY-KNOPS at pbase.com site. I've searched for a site that would show this famous parade (that even had a movie made about it) to no avail I'm afraid. Come on Television Networks. You'll all cover the event. Why not broadcast it online as well for the rest of the world to see? You have to wonder why someone in network planning didn't extend their thinking that far don't you?

My wife works in a local university and I was thinking when I was at University how helpful it would have been if someone had explained the things taught on the How to Take Lecture Notes - wikiHow site to me and those around me. It sure would have helped because no one ever thought to teach us how to take notes, how to study, etc. etc. Hopefully this site will help the students of today.

If, like me, you're interested in the solar system and the universe around us all, you may well be interested in having a read of The Planetary Society Blog The Planetary Society. They describe the blog as "a guide to interesting stuff going on in space science, space exploration, and space advocacy". Seeing as that ultimately affects us all, it might be an idea to keep up with what's happening and what's in store for the future.

Have you ever had an odd job to do around the home or office but really don't know where to begin? Wouldn't it be nice to have someone who has done it before share their information with you? Well, the SuTree - Knowledge Community Watch. Learn. Share. site contains how-to videos made by folk like you who share your interest. Oh, and by the way, you can do the same and share your knowledge with the rest of us as well. Have fun.

Wordsmiths, like my wife, will be intrigued by the online game called Etymologic the toughest etymology (word origin) game on the Web, even if it's just to fill in that coffee break time. They say, by way of explanation, that "the word etymology comes from the Greek word 'etymos', which means real, or true, and the -ology ending indicates that it's the study of, or science of. Put them together and you get the study or science of the real or true". That's kind of how the game works as well. Are you up to the challenge to see if you can unscramble the words they have in the game? Go ahead. Give it a try.

We in Australia live in a creature rich environment and many of those creatures are even more affected by floods, drought, etc, than we are. Thus a group like the Australian Wildlife Conservancy has knowledge that they wish to share with the rest of us on the environment around us and its inhabitants. Interesting site.

You knew that the YouTube site exists, but what about other sites that do the same or even better at providing video for all of us to see? One such site you might want to have a look at is the MEGAVIDEO site, and I must say, in some ways it seems to beat YouTube at its own game. What's your take on the comparison?

As you know here are various social engineering sites around that try to make communities even in cyber space. Well, have you had a look at the Boxxet - best news, blogs, photos, search on entertainment, celebrities, sports, technology... site yet? If this kind of site is your thing, maybe you should as it takes a slightly different slant on things. Have a look and see if it's what you would like to join or not.

Folk online generally love freeware. Freeware is defined as being written by someone to simply do some particular task, and they are happy to give it away at no charge. I'd suggest that the A+ Freeware - Home site is one of those sites that deserve a bookmark of favourite, so that you can return to it every so often to see if there is anything new you feel you should have. It's full of great software that may just fill that niche that you've found in your own workday. Have a look.

Though the drought that Australia has faced over the past 10 years seems to be drawing to a close, that is no reason to now waste water. Thus the DPIW - Water Conservation Tips site goes a long way toward reminding us all how to save this precious resource. Have a look. No matter where on the planet you are, wasting water is a bad idea. Have a look.

Some folk simply have much too much time on their hands. For instance, the folk who generated the Useless Account site seem to fall into that category. Mind you, if you go and take out a useless account.... well, I'll leave it there shall I? Have a look. Who knows - it could make your day. *smile
