Hello and welcome to Mac's Picks of the Week. If you are interested in why this site exists, how it operates, and a little about Mac, then click on the Why and How Info link and see what is there. When you have finished please return to this Home page and see what sites I have chosen this week to receive a Mac's Picks of the Week award. Thank you for visiting and please share this site with friends, family, and colleagues who you feel will enjoy it.

This page is updated on a weekly basis, each Monday Australian (Queensland) time (GMT + 10 hours according to the world clock). Please come back and visit often.

Thursday, the 10th of January, marks the Islamic New Year, celebrted on the 1st day of the month of Muharram, which is also the first day of the new year according to the Islamic calendar. You may wish to read more of this important day by visiting the Muharram website and the Muharram The Islaamic New Year websites. To all followers of the Faith of Islam around the world, a prosperous and happy New Year for you and your family.

With the advent of the new year upon us, many folk begin the year by making resolutions to improve this or that quality. Did you know that you can get help setting and achieving your goals for this year online? For instance, you might want to have a look at the Goal Setting - Powerful Written Goals In 7 Easy Steps! site which takes you through the process of setting goals that you can achieve. That has to be a good place to start.

And speaking of setting goals for the new year, I found the Learn How To Make Your Goals SMART site a big help as well. Smart in this case means Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely. Now that makes sense to me and I'm sure it will to you as well. If you're in pursuit of making those new year's resolutions count, read this article. It's worth your time.

Maybe one of the things you're looking for this year is ideas for things to peruse or study. If so the list titled Resources by category could be a good place to start your search. It certainly contains some interesting subjects and a series of websites dealing with those subjects for you to peruse. Have a look.

One of the things I enjoy about blogs is that some are very, very innovative and interesting. One of the things I enjoy about photography is that you never really are completely sure what you'll take, in relationship to time in particular. When one finds a blog that incorporates photography in the manner that the Sawse - Stir it Up! " Blog Archive " 25 Photographs Taken at the Exact Right Time blog does you know you have to see it, and you're reasonably assured that it's going to be good. Mind you, one photo has obviously been removed and replaced with a drawing but those that remain are worth the effort in seeing them. Enjoy.

Many folk travel over the festive season and the family car can take a beating, especially if you are in the northern hemisphere with snow on the ground. Thus the site called cars.com Auto Maintenance Tips From Car Talk might be a timely site to visit and see if there is anything you could do to keep that beast of yours operating properly. Happy motoring.

If, however, you're returning to school and have science as a subject, you might want to cast your eyes over the BBC - Science & Nature website, as it is quite possible that your teacher may have as well. It certainly contains a lot of useful information for any student studying science in school. I'd bookmark this one.

On the other hand, if you're a little younger, you might want to have a look at the site titled Intro to Pauly's Playhouse.com. It's a site geared to the younger folk among us and is full of fun and games to keep most young folk amused for hours. Have a look and bookmark it for them.

As you know I'm trying to broaden our collective diets by trying food from other countries and to that end, how is your Greek food knowledge? You might enjoy, as I did, perusing the recipes at the Cooks.com - Special Recipes - Favorite Recipes from Greece site, where all manner of interesting and tasty sounding recipes can be found. Hop over and have a browse. If you see something that tantalises your taste buds, why not print it off and give it a try? Enjoy.

One site that is trying to rank search facilities for us all, and also trying to write ways that will instruct us all how to best use them, is the GoshMe - The Web Search Assistant site. Though still in beta, this site is trying to categorize search engines for us and you can join the beta team and help it grow. Sound like something that you might be interested in? Have a look.

Most of us use the Adobe reader to read pdf files online. However there are alternative products out there you can use and I recently came across a free one that is great and much smaller in size. You might like to try the PC World - PC World Downloads - Foxit Reader as it replace Adobes 25mb space hog with a 2mb freebie that works just fine. Have a look. It could save you some space.

You will be aware of the popular video site named youtube, but do you also know about the site called Dailymotion - Share Your Videos? It does virtually the same thing and let's face it, competition is good, so have a look. This could be just what you've been looking for.

I once had a friend who swore he could tell the character of a person by simply seeing their face. Well, I kind of doubt that somehow, but you may agree with him. To test your theory of deduction, hop over to the facesexperiment.co.uk and do the experiment yourself. You might be confirmed in your own deductive powers, but then again.... *smile*
