Hello and welcome to Mac's Picks of the Week. If you are interested in why this site exists, how it operates, and a little about Mac, then click on the Why and How Info link and see what is there. When you have finished please return to this Home page and see what sites I have chosen this week to receive a Mac's Picks of the Week award. Thank you for visiting and please share this site with friends, family, and colleagues who you feel will enjoy it.
This page is updated on a weekly basis, each Monday Australian (Queensland) time (GMT + 10 hours according to the world clock). Please come back and visit often.
If you're a Firefox user you will no doubt be aware that there are a number of extensions you can get to make that browser do different things for you. However, there are possibly also 10 Killer Firefox Extensions That You Probably Don't Know About and this site will show them to you and also show you how to get them. Enjoy.
When is the last time you planted a tree? One of the ways of reducing your carbon footprint on the planet is to do just that, and the Country Energy site will show you how to get started with that project. Planting trees is not only good for the environment, and is useful to replenish oxygen we use, but they add something to a home as well. Have a look and choose which tree you will plant for your family.
Another place you can look at for information about planting trees is the Safe Tree, Planting Guide, Safe Tree Planting Queensland site run by the Australian electricity provider, Energex. When you think about it, having the people who have the electricity lines coming to your house help you plan what trees to plant in your yard makes a lot of sense. They know what to watch for when power lines are in use, so do have a look. The information is useful no matter where on the planet you live.
I and my wife both love drag racing. Neither of us has ever participated in the sport but we simply love watching real muscle cars try to get shorter and shorter times on the measured quarter mile. One of the sites that helps to keep us informed of what is happening in the drag racing world here in Australia is the Dragster.com.au - Australia's most comprehensive drag racing news and information site. It is full of information about the local drag racing scene and you might like a look as well. Why not take your own family to a drag event? There is nothing like it on the planet. Have a look.
I have researched sites for non-alcoholic drinks as I personally find that even after all this time, our road tolls are simply still too high. There is no excuse for drinking and driving yet motorists still do it and endanger their own lives and the lives of everyone around them. So, hop over and have a look at Flora's Drink Hideout Non-Alcoholic Drinks site and bone up on how to make some for the next party you host. Send your guests home safely and thus hopefully ensure they will come back again. It's time to stop the useless carnage on the roads. Stand up and do your part.
One of the things we all need at times is exercise. I know that with diabetic peripheral neuropathy it's a chore at times to do the same myself but I still try to do some. And, sites like the healthfitness.com.au Exercise Library Resistance Training Exercises and Exercise Technique site do help out as they show me ways to exercise without it becoming a chore. Have a look. You might benefit from a bit of it as well.
Our cat, Kylmousky, has a fear of some animal in our backyard and has taken to overindulging in grooming, thus producing the odd lick sore. We took her to the vet who suggested keeping her indoors for a while so that she calms down and stops worrying about this other animal that obviously visits our place. Advice like that can also be found in places like the Pet Care Tips site, along with some other really helpful information. So, if you have a pet, bookmark this one and read up on the tips for your pet.
My wife is leaving this week on a trip to Japan with her sister and brother in law. One of the sites that I found for her to peruse is the Tips for women travellers - Travel information - Consular services - Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade site and it may well be a good site for you to see as well. I am sure you'll find suitable information about your own travel plans to make the visit worthwhile. Have a look and enjoy your trip.
Unfortunately sites like eBay are having a hard time because of all of the unscrupulous people who sell things on that site and the frauds they deal in. One site you can shop at with ease and in safety is the Zazz! One Day. One Thing. One Chance. site. This one is slightly different as the name suggests. Each day there is one product for sale and only one product. You look at it, and if it interests you, you purchase it online. It's safe, and you never know what they will find each day. The sales only go until either a day has passed or they run out of stock of that one item. I must admit, it can be addictive checking each day for the bargains they have there. Have a look and bookmark it for a future look as well.
Those studying, whether in school or university, could usually use some help learning how to study more effectively. The site called About Homework and Study Tips gives one some good advice on how to study, which, if followed, will make that chore much easier to handle. Show this site to anyone you know is studying.
If you search the net regularly for things, you also will know that you shouldn't restrict yourself to any one search facility. No one search engine covers the entire net, not even Google or Yahoo or MSN. One piece of software you might like to have a look at has been around for a number of years and searches different search engines for you at once. It saves the searches you set up so that if you don't see them all the first time, the information is there for you when you return. The software is called WebFerret - Fast and powerful Web search software for Windows. and I personally recommend it. It's well written, does a superb job, and gives you the opportunity to look at different ways to find the information you seek. Oh, and did I mention that it's free as well? Have a look.
Occasionally I find or stumble across sites and have to sit there and scratch my old bald head and wonder why the site was produced in the first case. It doesn't happen every day but when it does, well, I just have to show it to you. For instance, take the VirtualStapler.com Revolutionary Online Stapler Simulation site. Go ahead. Have a look. Wait for it to load, then click on it, and then click on the stapler. Impressed? *shrugs* You be the judge. Maybe I'm just getting old after all. *smile*

Rebecca Game of "Digital Women - Women with their modems
running...", is my web designer and a graphic designer who is superb to say the least. Her site, dedicated to women on the net, is worth seeing and bookmarking for future reference. If you are looking for links of interest to women, please visit her site. And if you need the best graphic designer on the planet, I seriously can't recommend her more highly. Oh yes, and when you visit her site, tell her Mac sent you. Thank you Rebecca. I am eternally grateful for your assistance and expertise. ;-)
Search my site to see if I have given a "Pick of the Week"' to any family friendly term you wish here. If I have you will be shown the page(s) it was listed on.
