Mac's Picks is a collection of family friendly interesting and useful sites, updated weekly. These sites may be search engines, medical resources, household hints, educational resources, recipe sites, sites I call "head scratchers", and/or new sites dealing with all kinds of things of use to the general internet community. To find the criteria I use, simply click on the "Why and How Info" link on the right side of this page.
This page is updated on a weekly basis, each Tuesday evening Australian (Queensland) time (GMT + 9 hours according to the world clock). Please come back and visit us often.
Important Note: If you are returning to my page, welcome back! Please click your "Refresh" or "Reload" button on the top of your Internet browser to ensure you are seeing the current week's page of my "Picks of the Week". Also, I would love for you to make my site your home page. Simply click on Tools - Options in Explorer, or Edit - Preferences in Netscape, and click Use Current and it's done.
I recently found a new site dealing with diabetes, and seeing as I'm a diabetic as well, and the disease is on the increase in western populations, I thought I had best let you see it also. If you're a diabetic or know one, hop over to A Diabetes Website and have a look. If you feel it is of use to you or your diabetic friend, pass it on.
Having said all that, just because one is a diabetic doesn't mean that their table has to contain tasteless, boring fare. Far from it. If you have a look at the Diabetic Gourmet Magazine - Dedicated to Diabetic Dining and Healthy Living you'll find a collection of interesting, tasty recipes that will help to dispel the theory that a diabetic lifestyle is boring. In fact, eat like this and you may well avoid this terrible disease as well. Great yummy food.
The bane of many an existence is knowing How to maintain your car. However, this site goes a long way toward solving that. If you have a look you'll find all kinds of helpful hints on how to keep that vehicle of yours running like a top. Good site to bookmark.
If you're a frequent visitor you'll notice that I try to find blogs for you to see. It is the latest method of communicating your thoughts, feelings, etc, and entering into discussion on the net with others. It's not difficult to do and if you hop over to the Blog-City Free and Easy blogging site and sign up for free, you can do it right there. You can make your blog so it is able to be read by many but only written by you, or you can invite everyone to enter into the discussion as well. This is a great idea, but some folk can find that mindless children (at least those of children's age and mental capacity) may try to disrupt your blog. It's nothing to be afraid of, but it is something to be aware of. Try it out. You might find a lot of folk out there who agree with your thoughts as well. Enjoy.
I love browsing through news sources, in particular newspapers online. Many I look at come from different parts of the world and are fun to browse through, to get the local colour and local slant on events. One such publication is the Montreal - Canada.com network newspaper. It gives an interesting and informative slant on things Canadian, as well as international stories. Have a look.
If you are an educator, especially of young children, then the The Educator's Reference Desk Resource Guides site is something you should see and bookmark. It contains lesson plans as well as reference material for your classes to use and for you, as their guide to education, to have. Wonderful site.
If you're younger yourself, you need time to just be a kid. All work and no play makes for a very maladjusted individual. Even adults play. So join in the fun and hop over to the Time for Kids Home and have a browse around. It's a great site with all kinds of fun activities to see. Enjoy.
Australia is about to have a state and federal election. If you're an Australian you should hop over to the Australian Electoral Commission site, browse around, ensure that you are registered to vote, and if not, enroll to have your say in what happens with this country. Have a look. For a government run website this is a good one.
Like most folk I can imagine that a little organization in your life might be in order. My wife found this site this week, and being a proficient and organized personal assistant, she knows the value of being organized. Therefore it might pay you as well to have a look at the Getting_Organized_Saves_Time site. Of course it may only be useful to you if you also need more time in your life. I know I sure do. *smile*
How fast can a human on a self-propelled vehicle go? Have any idea? I'm not talking about cars or motorcycles here, but vehicles you propel yourself. The Speed 101 site contains links to and the history of speed on the surface of the planet by self-propelled vehicles. I was amazed at how far this sport/activity has come, and how fast humans can actually propel themselves. Have a look.
As you may guess, I chat with techos online and take part in a few online discussions, and even read different magazines to try and keep up with what is happening in the world of the Internet and in computer use as well. IT, or Information Technology, people can be fun, and not just boring nerds who live in closeted rooms. To show you what I mean, have a look at The Register - IT news - biting the hand that feeds IT site. It is tongue in cheek but also is relevant IT news for the pros. Good for a chuckle, and it also keeps you pretty well informed. See what you think.
Have you ever heard of a hamburger waterbed or a hamburger motorcycle? This site not only has, but its Webmaster owns one. Hop over to The Burger Museum and have a look. Now I love burgers as well as the next person but this is quite a hobby. Not my cup of tea, but obviously someone's. Enjoy.

Rebecca Game of "Digital Women - Women with their modems
running...", is a graphic designer who is superb to say the least. Rebecca designed this "new look" web site specifically for me, and I can't praise her work enough. Her site, dedicated to women on the net, is worth seeing and bookmarking for future reference. If you are looking for links of interest to women, please visit her site. And if you need the best graphic designer on the planet, I seriously can't recommend her more highly. Oh yes, and when you visit her site, tell her Mac sent you. Thank you Rebecca. I am eternally grateful for your assistance and expertise. ;-)
